Back from NYC and smelling good

The most important is that upon walking into Barneys in Midtown I saw a sign that said the Lipstick Queen was in the store......!!!!!!! We ran down the stairs and waited patiently while Poppy did someone's lipstick and then I got to have Poppy choose shades for me. I love the ones she chose as they are not ones I would choose myself. The new ones I got were Rose Sinner and Saint Rose. They are not pink-ish and are a nice shade of red. Poppy looks much better in person than she does on the back of the lipstick. She also said she will be carrying more products at Space NK http://www.spacenk.com/SpaceNK/beauty_specialists.aspx These are amazing apothecaries that stock really great skin care lines and makeup. Unfortunately they are all in the UK and Ireland, but lucky for us on this side of the pond, they are available online too.....You can shop online and the prices are not that bad for things that are special for the UK customer. I would not reccomend buying american products like kiehls or other easy to find products.
Also found out that Barneys now carries "this works" products. So you don't have to purchase them online with the pound.....

One amazing thing about Barneys is that they carry fragrances that are exclusive to them. Many products I have only found through them. One line Serge Luterns.. http://nowsmellthis.blogharbor.com/blog/_WebPages/PerfumeHousesS.html#Serge
http://freespace.virgin.net/lovely.perfume/SergeLutensWeb.html
These two sites explain the scents of this amazing perfumier. Unfortunately many scents are only available within Europe, but barneys carries a good amount of the different kinds of scents.
I had been using the new Bulgari Red and wanted something more Amber-ish. I have fallen in love with the Serge Luterns Ambre Sultan- this is part of the exclusive line and is available at Barneys. This smell takes me to India and back and lasts all day. The top notes are rather amber-ish and spicy...throughout the day the other parts of this fragrance change and get better.
The other fragrance I fell in love with was Dzongkha by L'artisan Parfumeur
http://www.laboutiquedelartisanparfumeur.com/us/index.php?lang=uk
This parfumeur has a few scents in the line that are called "novelties". There is Timbuktu, Bois Farine, and Dzongkha in particular. Timbuktu recreates the smell of a Mali market with the sweet oils the women use. Bois Farine smells like a glorious kitchen baking sugar cookies and flowers in the air from the Reunion Islands. Dzongkha, the language of Bhutan, smells like the temples, insense and flowers of this himalayan kingdom. After putting Dzongkha on I kept smelling my scarf as this fragrance changes throughout the day too.
These two frangrances are not cheap, but I found that you don't need as much to keep the scent going. The bottles are also beautiful and I can guarantee you that few people will have this scent.

The next stop was Natura Bisse and I bought some skin care products. The one that I love the most is from their diamond line. The cream is unbelievable!!!
http://www.thestylegroup.com/top10_moisturizers_5.htm

http://www.naturabisse.es/home.php?idm=ENG the rest of the products are also great. The Drops were very moisturizing and I saw an immediate difference. If you do not feel like spending large amounts of money on a line you may not like and want one thing that everyone can afford, I would go for the eye illuminate. It comes in a small yellow tube and decreases dark circles and puffiness. It smells a little odd at first but then cools the eye and leaves it very even toned.

I have used it throughout the day and absolutely love it.

If you have curly or thick hair the J Beverly Hills leave in conditioner is wonderful.

The salon I go to Gambei, uses this line and I was uneasy to try something other than my Pureology. I have really liked the Shine, Hold, and Masque. The wax is not strong enough for my hair but really like how it makes my bangs hang straight.

That is it for today as I am tired and back at work. Hope you enjoy the new suggestions.

Moisturizing tips in the dry climates aka I love Lalicious

Living in new mexico can be hard on your skin and hair if you come from a humid place like me. I got turned onto Lalicious by a salesgirl at Nordstrom in San Francisco. We were raving over lotions and she said that Lalicious makes the best bath products and your skin will be so soft.
She was right!
http://www.lalicious.com/
The coffee bean and coconut smell heavenly in a hot shower and when you rinse off the product it is not so slippery like many other body scrubs with high oil consistency. They sell a sample pack with three small containers. Also on http://www.b-glowing.com they sell travel size to try them out as well.

I don't like harsh cleansers when it is so dry outside so I tend to gravitate more towards the oil based or really moisturizing items. While in Telluride, I bought some soap by a company called Tomboy soap www.tomboysoap.com . The eucalyptus was very refreshing as was the peppermint. For hannukah this year I purchased some soaps made in northern israel called Sabon http://www.sabonnyc.com/ they came in a really cute basket that can be reused for other things. They smell very nice and not too flowery. They also had this great facial scrub that makes your skin glow. I have rosacea so I only use mild products on my face and Sabon was really good.

Well, besides the soap and scrubs I love moisturizing shampoos. Recently after a trip to Honey child spa in chicago http://www.spasalon.com/honeychild/ I fell in love with Ojon products. The shampoo, conditioner and shine are all light enough for any hair. The hair treatment though works best on thick hair like mine. I would not reccomend very fine hair people to try it. It smells so amazing you just want to keep it on all night.... http://www.ojonhaircare.com/
You can purchase it at sephora and beauty first if you are in albuquerque, spa look and amazon.com also carry the products. I am also a big fan of the moisturizing line of pureology
http://www.pureology.com/ they are amazing for everyday use and smell and feel so good. The moisturizing conditioner is minty and tingles your scalp a little.

Once out of the shower I love trader joes lavender oil or molton brown spray oil. The heavenly ginger shimmer oil smells like sweet ginger and lily. It glistens on your skin but not in a trashy way. Looks very nice on bare legs any time of year.

Cedar light, http://www.cedarlight.com has a great line of cedar scented lotions. If you have ever been to the spa at tamaya at the Hyatt here in new mexico then you are well acquainted with this line. The smell is addictive and brings your mind to a place that I don't know where it is located, but we all go there once in a while. It is not overwhelming like brightly colored potpourri or those room sprays. You can visit the factory and store in placitas m-f . If you happen to be in the area on a saturday and want to visit, the number is on the website and they live on the premises and are more than happy to let visitors in during off hours.

Some perfumed lotions are not very moisturizing, but the narcisco rodriquez one does not dissapoint in scent or feel.

My other favorite that I am sorry is unavailable unless you go to the hotel is the Malmaison line at their hotels.
http://www.malmaison.com These are small boutique hotels located throughout the UK and Ireland. They have amazing service and linens. The staff are so helpful and the food is always good in their restaurants. If you happen to find yourself in Birmingham next to the Mailbox building, try the brasserie in the Malmaison next door. The amazing thing about the Malmaison is that they give FULL size bottles of lotion, shampoo, conditioner and you can take them home. The lotion is so light and moisturizing. It smells like honeysuckle which is very wonderful. I don't think they will be selling them online, so if a trip includes a stop in the UK...please stay at this charming hotel chain.

I will devote another post to favorite lotions another time, but this was what was on my mind this fine morning. I know I said I would write about my favorite lush products, but that will wait till I return next week. I look forward to checking the new perfumes at Barneys as they carry many that are exclusive to their store only. I am also looking forward to going to the Sabon store in NYC to see what else they offer....who knows, I always seem to find new and delicious products wherever I go.
Until next week...

Welcome

I am sitting at my desk at work and the fed-ex man comes in with a box...what could it be?????Yippee its from Barneys and contains some new lipstick I ordered.
Lipstick Queen by Poppy. There are two varieties- the saints and sinners. The saints are more sheer and really layer nicely over other shades. The sinners are opaque and not thick feeling at all. I ordered the Natural Sinner and Saint Berry. They look fabulous...very vampire-ish blood color.
www.lipstickqueen.com

I purchased mine from Barneys and they are $18.00 each which is really good for a quality lipstick. I have just had 2 cups of Keurig coffee and the lipstick is still on and feels very moisturizing. Just wish I had someone to send a letter to with a kiss on it :)

The other product that I am in love with is from my friend Jinlen's spa and salon, Gambei.
She developed a line of oils and "my knotty body" is just delicious and keeps your skin moist in this dry dry land of new mexico. She is the best accupuncturist (is that a word???) and they have amazing treatments for hair, body and soul :)
(505)255-2555 or come in and visit us at 3209 Silver Avenue SE (3 blks west of Carlisle).

I often travel a lot to dry climates and before her oil I relied on the Leg Oil from THIS WORKS
http://www.beautyexpert.co.uk/GoShopping.asp?GroupID=979
If you have not tried these products they are very good, but a little pricey. The Really Rich Lotion smells very rich and rose-ish. If you are in the UK, they are available at Harvey Nichols, but I usually order them online.

Well, that's it for now :) Next post I will discuss my favorite Lush products. If you have any new products you are trying please let me know. I will be in NYC this weekend so look for some new scents and treats.......
